Children’s Books for Anxiety,
Overthinking, Big Feelings & Emotional Wellbeing
Children’s books and emotional wellbeing resources for anxiety, fear, stress, overthinking, family changes and life’s big feelings.
KBC Creations creates books and resources to help children understand their feelings, tune in to their nervous system and develop a healthier relationship with what is happening inside them.
Created by Karen Bell, qualified counsellor, teacher and author, the resources are based on more than 20 years of experience supporting people with anxiety, stress, overthinking, trauma and difficult life experiences.
Rather than teaching children simply to distract themselves from uncomfortable feelings or make them go away, KBC Creations helps children become curious about them.
What is my feeling trying to tell me?
What is happening in my body?
What might my nervous system be responding to?
Because feelings are your friends, not the enemy.
Mia and Boo Children’s Books — Ages 3–8
The Mia and Boo children's book series introduces emotional wellbeing and nervous-system awareness in a gentle, age-appropriate way.
Three Mia and Boo books are available now, covering experiences including:
-
anxiety, fear and panic
-
a new baby joining the family
-
family changes and changing routines
-
feeling worried, frightened or unsure
-
understanding big feelings
-
feeling safe when life changes.
The books are available in paperback and digital formats, with audio, giving children different ways to enjoy and engage with the stories.
Mia experiences the world around her while Boo helps give a friendly identity to the feelings and sensations happening inside.
Children can begin learning something that can support them throughout life:
Your feelings are not something you have to fight. You can learn to listen to them, accept them and work with them.
Children’s Books About Anxiety, Fear and Big Feelings
Anxiety does not always begin with the situation happening today. It can come from beliefs a child silently forms.
A child's reaction can be connected to feeling frightened, rejected, left out, uncertain, overwhelmed or unsafe. Experiences and relationships can shape how children respond when something later feels similar.
KBC Creations resources encourage children to recognise the connection between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, relationships and their nervous system.
The aim is not simply to manage the outward behaviour.
It is to become curious about what is underneath it.
Helping Children Understand Their Nervous System
Children often experience their nervous system long before they have words to explain what is happening.
A fast-beating, racing heart.
A swirly, whirly tummy.
Wanting to run away.
Wanting to hide.
Getting angry.
Crying.
Going quiet.
Thinking about something again and again.
When children understand that their bodies and feelings are communicating with them, these experiences can become less frightening.
KBC Creations encourages children to work with their nervous system rather than against it.
A Person-Centred Philosophy
Karen Bell's approach is strongly influenced by Carl Rogers and Person-Centred Counselling.
At the heart of this philosophy is the belief that people have an innate capacity for growth when they experience the right conditions.
Children do not always need adults to tell them what they should feel.
Sometimes they need the safety, language and space to discover what they do feel.
KBC Creations brings this philosophy into accessible books and resources that families can use in everyday life.
Coming Soon — Comic-Style Anxiety Resources for Ages 9+
As children grow, their lives become more complicated.
Friendships change. School pressures increase. Relationships become more important. Children become increasingly aware of what other people think of them — and overthinking, anxiety and stress can grow with them.
Coming soon: comic-style books and resources for children aged 9+, exploring anxiety, stress and overthinking through relatable situations and characters.
Paperback resources with accompanying audio will help older children explore what happens when their nervous system is triggered and how tuning in to their feelings can help them understand what is really going on.
The characters grow.
The situations change.
But the underlying philosophy remains:
Your nervous system is not your enemy.
Anxiety, Overthinking, Trauma, Relationships and Real Life
As children grow into teenagers and adults, the situations triggering their nervous system may change, but the underlying emotional patterns can remain.
Anxiety can appear in friendships, family relationships, school, work and intimate relationships.
Past experiences and trauma can influence how safe we feel today.
KBC Creations is developing resources that explore these connections rather than looking only at the immediate symptom.
The aim is to help people become curious about the root of their emotional response, understand what their nervous system may be trying to protect, and develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
NOW AVAILABLE — Resources for Teachers, Counsellors and Professionals
